About our Summer Internship Program

The Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) Summer Internship program allows students to apply their economics, public policy, finance, or accounting studies to projects that deliver tangible outcomes.

Interns will have the chance to tackle real-world problems, create positive change, and contribute to Victoria’s economic prosperity. Internships are offered on a full-time, fixed-term basis across DTF in various divisions, and the Essential Services Commission (ESC).

The internship program is open to applicants for two streams, an Economics and Public Policy Stream and an Accounting and Finance Stream.

As an intern at DTF or ESC, you will be placed in the Economic Division, Budget and Finance Division, Infrastructure Division, Commercial Division, or ESC for 12 weeks between December and February (start and end dates can be negotiated). In this role, you will report to a Senior Economist/Senior Analyst and work on a range of meaningful tasks.

Interns in this program have the chance to:

  • Gain practical experience in applying your studies to help shape policies and decisions with real-world impacts.
  • Contribute to the meaningful work that DTF and the ESC do to improve the lives of all Victorians.
  • Learn how the Victorian Government functions and how key policies and decisions are made.
  • Work alongside leading experts in economics, public policy and financial management, with on-the-job support and mentoring from experienced public servants.
  • Develop your professional skills and expand your network through a tailored program of training and mentoring sessions.
  • Have fun and learn with a cohort of like-minded interns who want to contribute to Victoria’s economic development and associated infrastructure.
