Over the summer period, fires burned through more than 400,000 hectares of our state, devastating communities across Victoria.
Over $400 million has been committed towards meeting the immediate emergency response and recovery needs of 2026 bushfire-affected communities.
A range of tax support measures are also available for these individuals and communities. People who meet eligibility criteria may be entitled to:
- up to $55,000 in land transfer duty relief on a replacement home, equivalent to the duty on a $1 million home
- land transfer duty refunds up to $55,000 for recent purchasers whose homes were destroyed
- a land tax waiver for 2026 for properties destroyed or substantially damaged
- a land tax waiver for 2026 for owners with properties in the bushfire-affected areas that have incurred significant financial losses as a result
- a vacant residential land tax waiver for the 2027 tax year for residential properties that cannot be used or accessed in 2026 due to the bushfires.
