Description
The new Footscray Hospital will replace the ageing Footscray Hospital on Gordon Street, which was built in the 1950s. This is the largest ever health infrastructure investment in the State.
The new hospital at the corner of Geelong and Ballarat roads in Footscray will provide acute and specialist facilities, clinical support spaces, teaching, training and research spaces, and carparking.
Building a bigger and better Footscray Hospital will cut wait times and reduce pressure on nearby hospitals.
The hospital is delivered as a Public Private Partnership in accordance with the Partnership Victoria Requirements.
The contract for the new Footscray Hospital project has been awarded to the Plenary Health Consortium. The lead parties within the consortium include:
- Plenary Group as sponsor, investor and asset manager
- Multiplex as builder
- Honeywell and Compass Group as facility and maintenance managers
- Sojitz Corporation as investor.
The design team is led by Cox Architecture and Billard Leece Partnership.
The public private partnership model for the new Footscray Hospital is a design, build, finance and maintain model over 25 years.
On 10 March 2021, following an extensive tender process, the Plenary Health consortium was officially awarded the contract to deliver the new Footscray Hospital with the parties successfully achieving financial close on 11 March 2021.
The new Footscray Hospital will continue to be a public hospital. The health service provider will continue to be Western Health with the existing hospital remaining operational throughout the construction.

Construction of the new Footscray Hospital is expected to be completed in late 2025.
