Community guidelines for the Department of Treasury and Finance LinkedIn account

We encourage respectful and constructive conversation on the Department of Treasury and Finance LinkedIn page.

These guidelines set out how we manage our LinkedIn page and what we expect from those who engage with us.

Respectful engagement

We value the comments and contributions we receive. While we encourage discussion, we will not tolerate posts or comments that are:

  • disrespectful toward another person
  • may make another person feel unsafe
  • discriminatory, defamatory, racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise offensive
  • false, misleading, off-topic, inflammatory or repetitive
  • commercial content, advertisements, or spam
  • campaigning for a product, service, cause or initiative
  • an infringement of the privacy, intellectual property or legal rights of others
  • any other material we consider to be inappropriate.

Moderation

Our LinkedIn page is moderated during business hours (Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm AEST, excluding public holidays).

We may hide or delete comments, and if necessary, block users if their contributions breach these guidelines.

Complaints

If you believe you have been defamed or unfairly treated in a comment on this page, you may make a complaint.

Please email dtfweb@dtf.vic.gov.au and include:

  • a link to the relevant post or comment
  • a screenshot (if available)
  • a short description of your concern.

When we receive a complaint, we will:

  • Acknowledge receipt within 3 business days.
  • Capture and review the content in question.
  • Remove or hide the comment if it breaches these guidelines or may be defamatory.
  • If appropriate, issue an acknowledgement or apology (not constituting admission of liability).
  • Escalate to our legal team where necessary.
  • Keep a record of the complaint and the actions taken.

Our responsibility

Comments on our LinkedIn page do not necessarily reflect the views of the Department of Treasury and Finance Victoria or the Victorian Government.

We comply with relevant legislation, including the Public Records Act 1973, the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014, and the Public Administration Act 2004.

We may keep records of posts, comments and moderation actions for compliance and accountability.
