The Red Tape Commissioner

Police check and Working With Children Check – bus company employees

Red tape issue

Bus drivers are required to get a police check to obtain driver accreditation, and are generally required by their employer to obtain a Working With Children Check (WWCC) so the operator can meet their requirements at law or under contract. Having to get both these background checks is duplicative in nature. There should just be one type of background check required, which should be whichever is more stringent.

Current status

A proposal will be developed by the regulators and the Department, in conjunction with the bus industry, to simplify these arrangements and remove red tape without compromising safety.
