Red tape issue
The process for an individual who lives interstate to move and drive a bus in Victoria involves providing all bus accreditation information and reports to the Taxi Services Commission, which then may take up to six weeks to verify records with other regulators prior to granting Victorian driver accreditation.
The individual must then apply to a bus company that requires the individual to undertake a medical assessment and provides training as a requirement of their bus operator accreditation. This process should be speeded up to get the individual into employment faster and to provide transport services to the community.
A proposal will be developed by regulators and the Department, in conjunction with the bus industry, to simplify these arrangements and remove red tape without compromising safety.
