Red tape issue
Currently building permits must be signed by the relevant building surveyor. The regulation is applied in a very strict fashion that prevents, for example, a building surveyor who is on leave delegating another surveyor to sign the building permit on his or her behalf.
Proposals for legislative change are currently being developed which would introduce more flexible arrangements, such as allowing a building surveyor to refer his or her work to another building surveyor with the consent of the other building surveyor and the person who appointed the building surveyor.
These changes may be progressed as part of further reforms to the building system proposed for introduction into Parliament in late 2016.
