The Red Tape Commissioner

Building on battle-axe blocks (COMPLETED)

Red tape issue

People have purchased land at the back of a block to build a home for their family, but are restricted from doing so due to a rule that states that a house must not be set back from the front street alignment by more than one third of the depth of the block.

People and businesses looking to build on a ‘battle-axe block’ must seek an exemption from this requirement through a report and consent from the local council. This adds to uncertainty and delays families from having a home.
