Natural disaster events and allowable time limits

The following information provides details of recent natural disaster events and allowable time periods to incur expenditure for relief and recovery activities and submit claims for reimbursement through Victoria’s Natural Disaster Financial Assistance (NDFA) scheme.

Under the NDFA, all eligible expenditure must occur within the period of two years from the end of the financial year in which the natural disaster occurs.

Claims for the reimbursement of expenditure for all eligible relief activities completed up to 30 June (i.e. relief and recovery centres, removal of debris on residential property) is required to be submitted in the ACMS by 31 July for assessment by the relevant assessing authority.

Claims for reimbursement of the restoration of essential public assets completed up to 30 June (until the end of the allowable time), is required to be submitted in the ACMS by 31 July for assessment by the relevant assessing authority.

Any relief or recovery costs incurred after these deadlines will be deemed ineligible for reimbursement. Please note that these timelines allow the Victorian Government to comply with Commonwealth Government timelines for acquittal and audit requirements.

The deadline for local councils and Catchment Management Authorities (CMAs) to incur expenditure associated with recent natural disaster events, and submit claims for reimbursement of this expenditure, can be found in the table below.

All claims for expenditure incurred during the financial year, are to be lodged on the ACMS by no later than 31 July each year.

Claims for expenditure lodged after this date will be considered ineligible.
