Productivity Commission Submissions
The Victorian Government has prepared submissions to the Productivity Commision on the following inquiries.
National Competition Policy Arrangements On 11 June 2004, the then Premier, the Hon Steve Bracks MP, presented Victoria’s Submission to the Productivity Commission Inquiry into National Competition Policy (NCP) Arrangements.
The submission demonstrates that Victoria is the leader in NCP implementation and that NCP has delivered permanent economic benefits. More than a third of the national gains from NCP were found to have resulted from reforms implemented in Victoria.
The submission notes that, while NCP has been a success, the time is approaching to consider a new national reform agenda. As a starting point, the submission sets out preconditions that must be met for any new reform agenda to succeed.

Economic Implications of an Ageing Australia
Coming decades will see Victorians living longer, and the Victorian Government is committed to ensuring that the challenges are addressed and the opportunities maximised.
This submission, 'Preparing for Victoria's Future - Challenges and Opportunities in an Ageing Population', explores the economic and fiscal impacts associated with the shift in the age structure of our population. It argues that increased labour force participation, productivity and economic growth are essential to address the combination of low fertility rates and longer life spans.
The issue also provides opportunities for the Commonwealth and all state governments to work together, in a cooperative and coordinated manner, to provide the right conditions for a healthy and prosperous nation.
