People wish to purchase land to build, and consider all relevant information. People are unable to access all information on “land liable to flooding” under the Building Regulations 2006. The absence of information prevents people from making optimal decisions. This adds unnecessary costs and uncertainty.
The Victorian Floodplain Management Strategy (VFMS) will set the policy direction and process for making flood risk information available to the public. A draft of the VFMS released for public comment on 26 June 2014 sets out — among other things — a process to improve the availability and coverage of flood risk information.
