Public sector industrial relations


The Public Sector Industrial Relations Unit provides strategic public sector industrial relations policy, financial and technical advice to achieve financially sustainable employment arrangements.

These arrangements will:

  • attract and retain a quality workforce across the Victorian public sector;
  • support strategic workforce and service delivery reform; and
  • lead the development of government industrial relations policy.

Executive employment

The employment arrangements for executives in the Victorian Public Service, as well as the arrangements for some declared authorities in the Victorian public sector, are subject to the Public Administration Act 2004.

The key objectives of the handbook are to:

  • outline the Government's executive employment policy;
  • assist agencies in the management of remuneration, contractual and employment issues relating to public service executives;
  • provide executives with information about remuneration and employment conditions; and
  • provide information for people who are considering a career as an executive officer in the public sector.
