Meet our senior leaders

Our senior management team

Why I work at the Department of Treasury and Finance

'I like working at DTF because I get an insider's view on a variety of important issues. There is a continued focus on my professional development and, as cliché as it sounds, I get to work with some really friendly and intelligent people.

My roles in the Department have meant I've been exposed to very senior figures and important decision making processes, which helps keep my work interesting and relevant. Despite not having a background in accounting or economics when I started at DTF, I've found there is a variety of challenging and interesting work and opportunities available to me.

I've really benefited from the Department’s focus on capability development and career planning, including assistance with further tertiary studies, the enthusiasm of co-workers to offer advice and mentoring, and the flexibility of senior staff which has allowed me to follow my interests and gain experiences in other areas.

Kathryn Scully, Departmental Liaison Officer - Minister for Finance

At DTF I develop and evaluate tax policy and provide taxation advice to the Treasurer. Working at DTF gives me the opportunity to work directly with senior executives and Ministers. The culture is friendly and supportive; my colleagues, senior executives and I share knowledge and work together.

'I am encouraged to take ownership of my work, explore my own ideas and test them with others to produce the best outcome. I am also given the opportunity to engage in business activities beyond my area of expertise, such as managing, supporting and developing junior staff .’

Jacqueline Bastiani, Economist, Tax and Intergovernmental Relations

I have been at DTF for five years. I first started as a generalist graduate, before moving into an economist role in the social policy team. I worked in this role for three years before DTF then supported me in taking up an 18 month secondment at the Department of Premier and Cabinet. I have now returned to DTF as a Senior Policy analyst.

'What I most like about working here is the opportunity to work on contemporary and relevant issues such as housing affordability and health reform. It is great to be part of an agency that can be influential and add constructively to debate.

Internally DTF works really well. It is a very collegial. The management team here is also an amazing asset. I have certainly benefited from successive managers that have been empowering and have actively sought to build my confidence and capabilities.’

Rachael Sprigg-McKinnie, Senior Policy Analyst, Social Policy and Infrastructure

'The graduate program gave me a great platform to establish a career in the public service. It taught me how government works, provided a wide breadth of government experience, and helped me establish a significant array of contacts and networks.

'DTF is an exciting, vibrant and dynamic workplace where you get the opportunity to input into a wide variety of key policy areas which are of substantial interest to government and the wider community. There are many opportunities at all levels to engage in high priority issues and provide advice that really does influence the Government's service delivery program.’

Ashley Smith, Senior Policy Analyst, Shareholder Advisory Services
